Answerlog helps non-specialists discover scholarly work and understand available titles and abstracts through source-linked explanations they can read or listen to. Use it as an informational starting point and check important claims against the linked sources.
The service
Answerlog searches third-party scholarly services including OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar, PubMed, and Crossref after a reader requests a check, creates plain-language explanations and abstract-derived paper summaries, links source records, stores answer versions and language presentations, and lets readers save topic radars and organize paper metadata in a library with collections, reading status, and notes, held against a browser profile or a signed-in account. It can read the on-screen answer aloud using speech synthesis supplied by the reader's browser or operating system. Saving a radar or following a question does not start background monitoring. This beta has no scheduler, service-worker push subscription, or email delivery. Features, providers, coverage, and availability may change during early access. The service may be interrupted, rate-limited, or withdrawn.
Accounts
Reading an existing answer requires no account. Creating a new answer, saving a paper, and tracking a question require signing in with Google, so that free use can be counted per person rather than per browser. You are responsible for the security of the Google account you sign in with and for activity carried out through it. One person should hold one account; creating additional accounts to obtain more free usage is a breach of these terms and may result in suspension.
Answerlog is free today. It may not always be. Any change to what free use includes will be published on this page with a new effective date and will apply going forward, not retroactively. Reading answers that already exist is intended to remain free.
Generated content and evidence
Answers may be produced by deterministic software or an optional AI model. They can contain errors, omit context, or mischaracterize a paper. Source metadata can also be incomplete. Some indexed records are preprints and may not have been peer reviewed; indexing by any provider is not a peer-review guarantee. Evidence counts and labels are navigation aids, not guarantees of consensus, quality, peer review, or truth.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for the questions, notes, collection labels, and feedback you submit and for how you use an answer. Do not submit confidential information, personal data about another person, unlawful content, malicious instructions, or content you do not have the right to provide.
Feedback is stored for operator review. It does not automatically revise an answer and does not guarantee a response.
Acceptable use
Do not probe for secrets, bypass rate limits or access controls, disrupt the service, automate abusive request volumes, impersonate others, or use Answerlog to facilitate harm. Reasonable automated access requires the operator's permission and must respect upstream provider terms.
Sources and intellectual property
Paper titles, abstracts, metadata, and linked publications remain subject to their respective rights and source terms. Answerlog provides links and limited abstract-derived explanations; it does not grant rights to download, reproduce, or redistribute paper full text. Product software, branding, and original interface content remain with their respective owners.
Citation files and formatted references are generated from available metadata and may be incomplete. Verify authors, title, venue, date, DOI, and required citation style against the original source before publication.
Privacy
The privacy notice explains the browser-generated device profile, the account profile created when you sign in, the local answer cache, service providers, storage, and deletion controls. With permission, the open app may show a browser notice only after a reader-initiated refresh finds a material change. Signing in gives Answerlog your Google account identifier, email address, and profile details, never your password. The service has no background push subscription and does not currently promise or send email newsletters.
No warranties
The early-access service is provided on an “as available” basis without a promise that it will be accurate, complete, current, secure, or uninterrupted. To the extent allowed by applicable law, the operator is not responsible for decisions made from generated explanations or for content and availability on external sites.
Suspension and changes
Access may be limited or suspended to protect users, providers, or the service, or in response to misuse or legal requirements. Material term changes will be shown by a new effective date.
